W. A. Brown and Son, Inc. was founded in 1910 and employs approximately 200+ people. The company currently operates two divisions.
The Walk-In Cooler & Freezer Division began in 1910 by selling refrigerators to grocery and market owners in North Carolina. W. A. Brown has continued to grow and is the largest manufacturer of commercial refrigerators in the state. Today the product may be seen in restaurants, convenience stores, supermarkets, hospitals or any other environmentally controlled chamber.
The Electrical Controls Division got a start in the mid 1970s as energy conservation became a major issue with many companies. Working with several customers of the coolers and freezers, W. A. Brown pioneered applications that were able to control the heating and air conditioning, interior lighting in functional stages, exterior signs and canopy lights. The end result was a significant dollar savings through the use of energy management technology.
